The Freedom Programme


Domestic Abuse Awareness and Support Group for Women

The Freedom Programme is a 12 week support group for women. It is open to any woman who wants to learn more about the reality of domestic abuse.

It aims to:

  • help women to understand the beliefs held by abusive men and in so doing recognise which of these beliefs they have shared
  • help women to gain self esteem and the confidence to improve the quality of their lives
  • to look at the effects of domestic abuse on children
  • to help women to recognise potential future abusers
  • to introduce women to community resources such as the Police Domestic Abuse Unit and Rape Crisis

The Freedom Programme is co-ordinated and facilitated by Choices in Dartford, Gravesham and Maidstone.

Creche places are available.

All programmes are free.

Living with the Dominator

Living With the DominatorThe book ‘Living with the Dominator’ by Pat Craven with illustrations by the acclaimed artist Jacky Fleming is now published in paperback. This book about the Freedom Programme explains violent and abusive behaviour and places it in a social context. It can help readers of any age and sexual orientation to change their own behaviour and to recognise when they are being controlled.

Pat Craven is the creator of the Freedom Programme. Jacky Fleming has produced several books and her illustrations have appeared in the Guardian, New Statesman and the Independent on Sunday.
