Domestic Abuse Fractures Lives

DU Logo

A Sanctuary Scheme is operated by a number of local Councils and each local authority operates their scheme in an individual way.   This scheme gives additional security measures to victims of domestic abuse who wish to remain in their own homes. Security measures can range from new locks to reinforced doors.

The scheme is only considered if all three of the following apply:

  • the perpetrator doesn’t live in the accommodation
  • it‘s safe for the victim to remain living there and
  • it’s the victim’s choice to stay.
